How to Recover Deleted Files from Recycle Bin?
“Last night, I was deleting some junk files to free up drive space. But I mistakenly deleted some important files. What should I do? How do I undelete files in Windows system?”
If you accidentally deleted files like photos, PowerPoints, Word Documents or videos by mistake, don’t panic and read this article to find effective solutions to get your lost files back.
Solution 1: Restore Deleted Files from Recycle Bin
The significance of Recycle Bin is that it gives you a chance to undelete files when you make a mistake. It acts like a safe net to inadvertent operations. If you delete files, they will be “moved” (not actually moved) to the Recycle Bin until you actively clear the Recycle Bin. The older files may be automatically purged to make room for newly deleted files when the maximum size limit of the Recycle Bin is reached. So, if you accidentally deleted something, the first thing you should do is to check your Recycle Bin. Open Windows Recycle Bin by double-clicking on the icon, then right-click the deleted photo and choose Restore.
If you cannot see the Recycle Bin icon on your desktop, you probably hid the icon. Follow below steps to make it show up again.
For Windows 8 and 10 users:
- Right-click on the Desktop.
- Select Personalize in the pop-up menu.
- In the left navigation menu, click on Themes.
- Under Related Settings, click on the Desktop icon settings option.
- Uncheck the Recycle Bin box and click OK.
For Microsoft Windows Vista and 7 users
- Right-click on the Desktop.
- select Personalize in the pop-up menu.
- In the Personalize appearance and sounds window, click the Change desktop icons link on the left-hand side.
- Uncheck the Recycle Bin box and click OK
“But what if the Recycle Bin has been emptied? Or the files are permanently deleted without going to the Recycle Bin?”
Solution 2: Recover Permanently Deleted Files with Data Recovery Software
Emptied Recycle Bin means “permanent” deletion by default because Windows doesn’t provide any tool to view or restore these deleted files. This doesn’t necessarily mean these files can not be retrieved. With the right data recovery tool such as H Data Recovery Software, you can easily recover deleted files from emptied Recycle Bin.
Step 1. Install and launch H Data Recovery Software. Select the “Emptied Recycle Bin Accidentally” module.
Step 2. Wait while H Data Recovery Software scan for deleted files in the Recycle Bin. The Scanning will only take several seconds to complete. When the scanning is done, all the recoverable files will be listed for your browsing. You can select a file type to filter the results so that you can quickly locate what you need.
Step 3. Select the files you wish to recover and choose a secure destination to save them. You should save these recovered files on another drive or partition to avoid potential overwriting.
