you might be familiar with the situation that USB drive shows 0 byte used space an 0 byte capacity when you insert it into your PC even though you are sure that you have stored lots of data on the drive. What is the problem? Where is the data? Is it possible to recover the files from USB flash drives or SD drives that show 0 byte? There could be a number of reasons for this to happen.
1. Bad connection. Try different USB ports on different host computers to determine where the problem lies. It could be the bad USB ports on host computers or a defective USB flash drive head. Sometimes when you apply pressure with your fingers on the drive and it temporarily returns to normal, it could indicate loose solder joint connecting USB flash drive head and its circuit. You can change defective USB ports or resolder the loose joint to solve the connection problem.
2. Virus infections. USB flash drives are prone to virus infections because we prefer to use them as a tool to transfer data between computers and colleagues. Perform a thorough virus check to make sure your USB flash drive is not suffering from virus infection.
3. Improper operation. One of the most common reasons for USB flash drive failure is removing from the computer incorrectly. Removing a USB flash drive when it is reading or writing data can lead to file system damage. The unsafe removal can also make USB flash drives unreadable or unrecognizable. Even if you have enabled the Quick Removal, it is not recommended to unplug a USB flash drive while it is reading or writing information.
For non-physical causes, the best way to fix the error is to quick format it. A quick format will remove all contents, including possible viruses or malware. It also rebuilds the filesystem to prepare the USB flash drive for use. Do not format the USB the USB flash drive when the operating system prompts you to. The chances are that you will fail to do that and receive the error message like “WINDOWS WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE FORMAT”. If this happens, right-click on My Computer and open Disk Management and see whether your USB flash drive is showing 0 bytes unallocated. If it is, right-click on the drive and create a partition with the maximum available size. Then your USB flash drive should be properly fixed and you can use it again. The downside is that all formerly stored files will have to be deleted. But don’t worry, you can choose H Data Recovery Software to restore all the deleted files.
H Data Recovery Software will help you recover data from USB flash drives or SD cards showing 0 bytes and it supports recovering various files including photos, music, video, archive, documents, zip files, etc. Here is how we do it:
Step1. Insert the USB flash drive or SD card to your computer. Download and install H Data Recovery Software on your computer. Run the software and choose the Flash Memory recovery module.
Step 2. Select the flash memory device that is previously formatted. Click Next to proceed with the scan process. H Data Recovery will scan the memory card and try to find and reconstitute the files. When the scan is complete, you will be able to see the list of all recoverable files. If you act quick enough after the format, the chance of a complete recovery is very high.
Step 3. Select the files you want to restore. Choose a safe directory to export these files.
